Child Counseling

invest in your child’s health

At Oak Mountain Counseling, we believe in creating a safe and nurturing space where children can express themselves freely. We are committed to helping your child navigate challenges, build resilience, and develop the necessary coping skills for a happier and healthier future. Many children can benefit from counseling, whether it’s due to adoption, behavioral issues, learning disabilities, low self-esteem, divorce, or simply just providing children an outlet to express themselves freely. Our goal is to create a fun environment for children to voice their thoughts and learn more about their feelings.

Our Approach to Counseling

The key to success in children’s counseling is to create an environment where they feel fully comfortable, which may include games, coloring, or tossing a ball. Keeping the child engaged and interested typically involves entertainment, and ideally the child feels free to express their thoughts and feelings as they are engaging in an activity. As many children are not fully aware of their emotions even though they are regularly feeling intense emotions, counseling is framed to try to learn more about their emotions and learn what is causing the big emotions. Even if your child is not expressing emotions, you may notice withdrawal, behavioral issues, low self esteem, or severe attachment. The goal of counseling is to talk through life with each child to help them to understand their emotions, control their reactions, and develop the confidence to fully express themselves.

how counseling can help

At Oak Mountain Counseling, we believe that counseling as a child can greatly impact their future and understanding of emotions to lead to better mental growth.

Counseling can help children by providing:

  • Coping Strategies: Learn coping mechanisms to manage the overwhelming emotions, fostering resilience and emotional well-being.

  • Emotional Awareness and Management: Understand the different emotions, events the each emotion might stem from, and how to manage emotions once they arise.

  • Behavioral Skills: Develop skills to react to emotions in a healthier way and discuss ways in which negative reactions are damaging relationships and mental wellbeing.
