Adolescent and Teen Counseling
Being a teenager is hard
Preteens and teenagers are in a unique stage of life where they are rapidly changing and growing, hormones are developing, peer pressure is happening, and life and school pressures are growing. With many extra curriculars and a demanding school schedule, as well as family obligations, teenagers are trying to accomplish everything while also trying to understand who they are, what they will become, and how they fit in. They are often stressed, anxious, depressed, and overwhelmed, as we all once were. It’s not shocking that teenagers often have emotional responses, behavioral concerns, or mood swings. Counseling can help, even if counseling just serves as a listening ear when a child doesn’t want to communicate with their parents.
Our Approach to healing
Each approach is individualized to the teenager based on the presenting concerns. Some might come to counseling to help gain a sense of self and talk through what they might want the future to be. Some might come to counseling for behavioral concerns or emotional outbreaks. Some might come to counseling due to a hard relationship with their parents and communication problems within the family. The counselor provides an unbiased, neutral listening ear to help each person feel understood. The counselor will work with each individual to understand emotions and coping strategies, develop communication skills, develop a sense of self and confidence, and learn behavioral management skills. It is completely normal for teenagers to go through these stages, and in counseling, we believe that it is helpful to normalize the process while also helping the individual learn and understand a healthy way to grow into who they want to be.
